Overview

EY’s Integrated Tax Platform (ITP) is a cornerstone product in their digital compliance arsenal, used by some of the world’s largest enterprises to manage GST, TDS, and evolving regulatory landscapes across jurisdictions. Despite the depth of its capabilities, the platform faced one common challenge: it was powerful, but hard to navigate.

Our task was not just to redesign screens—it was to untangle complexity, build trust through clarity, and turn a back-office compliance tool into a flagship experience worthy of EY’s innovation pedigree.

Challenge

Challenge

At its core, the ITP was built by experts, for experts—which meant the user interface often mirrored the complexity of the regulations it was built to navigate.

We faced multiple UX challenges:

  • Disjointed mental models: Different modules (GST, TDS) used different navigational structures, even though users expected continuity.

  • Overwhelming data surfaces: Users were met with dense, spreadsheet-like tables without context, making critical tasks feel intimidating.

  • Limited role-specific views: Tax heads, analysts, and finance teams all accessed the same screens—despite needing very different insights and actions.

  • Error recovery bottlenecks: Fixing returns or validating mismatches required leaving the workflow, jumping across tabs, or calling support.

Solution

Solution

We took a zero-base design approach—starting not with interfaces, but with user goals, anxieties, and mental maps.

Key Interventions:

  • Designed a system-wide IA restructure, aligning modules under a unified navigational logic that respects how enterprise teams actually work.

  • Built a visual grammar through a custom design system—defining everything from button behavior to alert color logic—so users wouldn’t have to “relearn” at every module switch.

  • Created role-based dashboards, each customized to the needs of CFOs, analysts, tax specialists, and operations—so they see what matters, faster.

  • Introduced contextual workflows: Instead of pushing users into error logs, the system surfaces corrections inline—turning alerts into actions.

  • Redesigned reporting as a living, interactive space—not just exports. Users can sort, flag, annotate, and even simulate changes before submission.

Impact

Impact

  • Established a scalable UX foundation, enabling EY to roll out new compliance modules with minimal friction.

  • Redefined ITP’s perception—from a backend obligation to a user-forward product that drives confidence and clarity.

  • Reduced reporting errors by simplifying action flows and integrating validations in-context.

This wasn’t just a redesign. It was a strategic repositioning of EY’s most critical enterprise product—from a maze of regulations to a map of action.
